Pamplona sits in a natural basin in the Navarre region of northern Spain, ringed by green hills and anchored by one of the best-preserved medieval old towns in the country. Beyond San Fermín, Pamplona rewards visitors with excellent Navarrese cuisine, a lively university atmosphere, and easy access to the Pyrenees and the Camino de Santiago. Hotels here tend to offer strong value outside of festival week, and most of the city is reachable on foot or by a reliable bus network.

• Casco Antiguo (Old Town): Best for first-time visitors and culture seekers. This walled medieval core holds the bullring, the Cathedral of Santa María, and the densest concentration of pintxos bars on Calle Estafeta and surrounding streets. Expect lively evenings and a very central location.

• Pamplona Airport (PNA) is small but convenient: Located just 6 km south of the city, it is served by limited routes. A taxi or rideshare to the center takes around 10 to 15 minutes. Most international visitors arrive via Bilbao (150 km) or Madrid (400 km) by bus or car.
• Spring and early autumn are ideal travel seasons: April to June and September to October offer mild temperatures, green landscapes, and no festival crowds. July outside of San Fermín week can be hot; January and February are cold and rainy.
• Stay near the Casco Antiguo for nightlife, farther out for sleep quality: The old town is vibrant late into the night on weekends. If you are a light sleeper or traveling with children, a hotel in Ermitagaña or Segundo Ensanche will give you a quieter night while keeping the center within 15 minutes on foot.
