Hotels in Palma de Mallorca: Where to Stay in 2025

Palma de Mallorca is the kind of Mediterranean capital that surprises visitors expecting a resort town. The city holds a Gothic cathedral rising straight from the sea wall, Renaissance palaces converted into boutique hotels, a covered market that has been feeding locals since the 19th century, and a waterfront promenade that connects the old harbor to long sandy beaches. It is a proper city first, and a beach destination second.

Staying in Palma rather than a resort on the island gives you something rare: the ability to walk from a 13th-century Arab bathhouse to a Michelin-starred restaurant to a bar playing jazz, all before midnight. Transport links are excellent, the airport sits only 11 km from the center, and Mallorca's best beaches and mountain villages are reachable by bus, hire car or taxi within the day.

• La Llotja and Born (Old Town center): For travelers who want to be inside the historic core. Narrow stone streets, independent restaurants, the Born promenade and the Llotja merchant exchange are all on foot. The Can Alomar Hotel sits directly in this neighborhood at the high end of the market.
• Plage de Ca'n Pere Antoni and Paseo Maritimo: For those who want the sea view and the city in the same stay. The promenade runs along the bay with easy walking distance to the Old Town. Melia Palma Bay is positioned here.
• Son Armadams: A quieter residential hillside district just west of the Paseo Maritimo. Calmer than the center, with good bus connections and views toward the bay. Hotel Palma Bellver is located in this area.

• Airport transfers: Palma Airport (PMI) is roughly 11 km from the city center. The EMT bus line 1 runs frequently to Plaza España for under 2 euros. Taxis are metered and typically reach the center in 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. Car hire desks are at the terminal if you plan to explore the island.
• Best season to visit: April to June and September to October offer warm weather, manageable crowds and reasonable accommodation prices. July and August bring peak heat, peak prices and peak footfall, especially along Playa de Palma. December to February is quiet and mild by northern European standards, though some beach-facing businesses reduce hours.
• Getting around the city: The Old Town, Paseo Maritimo and Ca'n Pere Antoni beach are all walkable if you are based centrally. For Son Vida or the Calvià coast, a hire car or taxi is practical. The EMT city bus network covers most districts, and cycling infrastructure has expanded significantly along the seafront.
• Book early for summer: Palma is one of Spain's most visited cities in July and August. Waterfront and Old Town hotels tend to fill weeks in advance. If you are traveling in peak season, secure accommodation before fixing flights.
• Neighborhood noise levels: Streets inside the Old Town, particularly around La Llotja and the Born, can be lively late into the night on weekends. If you are a light sleeper, look for hotels on upper floors or choose a property set slightly back from the main bar streets.
