Staying in Murcia means eating well and cheaply, navigating a compact center on foot, and avoiding the crowds that overwhelm coastal rivals like Cartagena or Alicante during summer. Temperatures climb sharply from June to September, so spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring. The city has a confident university population that keeps bars and restaurants lively year-round, and a tram-and-bus network that connects the center to outlying districts without difficulty.

• Historic Center / Cathedral District: The right choice for first-time visitors. The Cathedral, the Glorieta, the covered market and the main tapas streets are all within a short walk. Noise levels rise on weekends but the convenience is unmatched.
• La Paz: A residential district just north of the center, quieter and well connected by bus. A good fit for travelers who prefer calmer streets but still want a 10-minute walk or a quick bus ride to the old town.
• Vista Alegre: A mid-ring neighborhood on the western side of the city, practical for drivers arriving by car. More local in character, with everyday shops and restaurants.
• Churra: Located on the northeastern edge of Murcia, close to the Thader retail area and easy motorway access. Best suited to budget travelers or those arriving by car who prioritize price over central location.
• Río Segura / Paseo del Malecón: The riverside promenade zone links the center to the university campus. Pleasant for evening walks and close to many of the city's cultural venues and restaurants.

• Book early for Semana Santa and Bando de la Huerta: Murcia's Easter processions and the spring Huerta festival (late March to April) are among the most important in Spain. Hotels fill up weeks in advance and prices rise significantly during these periods.
• Use the city bus network (EMT Murcia) for outer neighborhoods: The center is walkable, but lines to La Paz, Churra and Vista Alegre are frequent and inexpensive, making outlying hotels genuinely practical.
• Avoid peak summer heat if you plan to sightsee: July and August regularly see temperatures above 38 °C. If you must visit in summer, plan outdoor activity for early morning and late evening, and confirm your hotel has air conditioning.
• Murcia Airport (MJV) is actually in San Javier, 45 km away: Allow around 45 to 60 minutes by car or shuttle bus to reach the city center. Alicante Airport (ALC) is also used by many visitors and offers bus connections via ALSA.
