Wander fifteen minutes outward and you hit residential neighborhoods full of local cafés and independent shops. Public transport is efficient, cycling is genuinely practical, and almost everyone speaks English. Whether you book a design apartment in the center or a business hotel near the expo halls, Ghent is easy to navigate and consistently pleasant to walk.

• Graslei and Korenlei (Historic Waterfront): for visitors who want to be inside the postcard, this canal-side strip is the geographic and emotional heart of Ghent, lined with medieval guild houses and within five minutes on foot of the main sights.
• Patershol: a quiet, cobbled district tucked behind the Gravensteen castle, known for its concentration of good restaurants and its residential calm, ideal for couples or travelers who prioritize atmosphere over convenience to the station.
• Korenmarkt and City Center: the commercial core, best for those who want maximum walkability to shops, museums, and the Sint-Baafskathedraal, with tram connections in every direction.
