Your stay in Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, in one conversation
Charlize builds hotels, activities and dining around your wishes, dates and budget.
The four parishes of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé and Miragaia together form the dense, hilly centre of Porto. Sé climbs toward the cathedral and the old city walls; Miragaia stretches along the Douro riverbank west of the Ribeira; Santo Ildefonso holds some of the city's most photographed azulejo facades and the animated Batalha square; and Cedofeita, slightly further inland, is the address of Rua de Santa Catarina and a growing scene of independent cafes and concept stores. Streets are narrow, often steep and largely stone-paved, which makes the area a genuine urban neighbourhood rather than a sanitised tourist zone.
Getting around is straightforward without a car. The metro stops at Aliados, Trindade and São Bento station (served by suburban rail as well as being a landmark in itself) sit within or on the edge of this area. Trams 1 and 18 run near Miragaia. Many of Porto's headline sights, including the Livraria Lello bookshop, the Palácio da Bolsa and the Clérigos tower, are reachable on foot in under fifteen minutes from most hotels listed here. The trade-off is that hills and cobblestones can tire out visitors with mobility concerns, and weekend nightlife in some streets runs late.

Is this part of Porto walkable, or do visitors need public transport?+
Most sights within this group of parishes are reachable on foot, including the cathedral, Ribeira, Clérigos tower and Lello bookshop. A car is rarely needed and parking is difficult in these narrow central streets.

Pousada Porto Rua das Flores (4 stars, from 181 euros per night, rated 4.8 out of 5) occupies a historic building on one of Porto's most scenic pedestrian streets and belongs to the Pousadas de Portugal heritage network. Santa Catarina FLH Suites (from 129 euros per night, rated 4.8 out of 5) offers suite-style rooms in a central location.
