Hotels in Treviso: Where to Stay in the City

Treviso is one of northern Italy's most underrated city breaks. Enclosed by intact medieval walls and threaded with canals fed by the Sile and Botteniga rivers, it has the atmosphere of a smaller, less crowded Venice without the tourist fatigue. The city is genuinely lived-in: morning markets under frescoed arcades, cicchetti bars where locals actually eat, and a pace that rewards wandering rather than ticking off sights.

Staying in or near the centro storico puts you within walking distance of Piazza dei Signori, the Calmaggiore shopping street, the fish and vegetable markets by the canals, and the train station that connects Treviso to Venice (about 30 minutes), Padua, and the Dolomite gateway towns. The city also has its own small airport, Treviso Airport (TSF), which handles several low-cost European routes, making it a practical entry point for the Veneto region as a whole.

• Centro Storico (Historic Center): For visitors who want to walk everywhere. The walled old town concentrates the main piazzas, canal views, restaurants, and cultural sites. Hotels here tend to be mid-range to premium, and the atmosphere in the evenings is genuinely local.
• Train Station Area (Borgo Cavour): A practical choice for travelers passing through or combining Treviso with day trips to Venice, Padua, or Vicenza. Slightly less picturesque than the center but very convenient and with a good mix of accommodation budgets.
• Preganziol (4 km north): A quiet suburban town on the edge of Treviso, well connected by road. A good option for drivers who want lower prices and a residential setting while still being close to the city.
• South of the Walls (Monigo / Al Fogher area): Just outside the old city walls, this zone is more commercial but useful for travelers arriving by car or bus. Several well-rated hotels sit here at accessible prices.
• Countryside and Prosecco Hills surroundings (12+ km): The hills north of Treviso are UNESCO-listed Prosecco country. Properties in this zone offer a rural, estate-style experience with vineyards and silence, best suited to travelers with a car who want a wine-country base.
• Sile River Banks: For those who want a balance between city access and natural calm. The Sile river park runs alongside the city and some properties nearby offer a green setting just a short ride from the center.

• Use the train for Venice day trips: Treviso Centrale station connects to Venice Santa Lucia in roughly 30 minutes on regional trains. Buy tickets at the station or on the Trenitalia app. It is a far cheaper and less crowded way to visit Venice than staying there.
• Treviso Airport (TSF) is not in the city center: Despite being called Treviso Airport, it is about 3 km from the city. A bus service (ATVO and Barzi) connects it to Venice Mestre and Piazzale Roma. For the city itself, taxis or a short ride are the simplest options on arrival.
• Travel in spring or early autumn: April to June and September to October offer mild temperatures, open terraces, and the Treviso Giostra dell'Oca festival (spring). July and August are warm but quieter than Venetian crowds, while November brings the famous radicchio season and regional food markets worth planning around.
• Book early if visiting during Prosecco or radicchio events: Treviso and the surrounding Marca Trevigiana host several food and wine events in autumn that fill local accommodation quickly. If traveling in October or November, confirm availability several weeks in advance.
• Parking inside the walls is limited: If arriving by car, look for accommodation with private parking or use the public lots just outside the walls (Lungosile Mattei or Piazzale Duca d'Aosta). The historic center is mostly ZTL (restricted traffic zone), so check your hotel's instructions before driving in.
