• Old Town (Altstadt / Centro Storico): The best all-round choice for most visitors. Gothic arcades, the daily fruit-and-vegetable market, Piazza Walther, and the cathedral are all within walking distance. • Gries: A quieter residential district west of the Talvera river, historically known for its Lagrein vineyards. Good for travelers who want proximity to the center without being on top of the tourist flow. A short walk or bike ride brings you to the Old Town.
• Don Bosco / Europa: Bolzano's more modern residential neighborhoods to the southeast, popular with long-stay travelers and those arriving by car. Fewer tourist facilities but lower noise levels and good access to the main train station.
• Renon Plateau (Ritten): Technically above the city, reached by the Renon cable car from the train station district. A handful of guesthouses and small hotels sit among apple orchards with panoramic views. Ideal for hikers and families who want mountain air without driving into the Dolomites.

• Book early for summer and Christmas market season: July through August and the weeks around the Bolzano Christmas Market (late November through early January) are peak periods. Availability tightens fast and prices rise across all categories.
• Use the train for Dolomite day trips: Bolzano's main station connects directly to Bressanone, Merano, and Trento. From there, regional buses reach most major Dolomite valleys. Having a hotel in or near the Old Town means you can walk to the station in under 10 minutes.
