• Spring and early autumn are the sweet spot: April to June and September to October bring mild temperatures, fewer crowds and pleasant conditions for exploring on foot. July and August are busier but generally reliable weather-wise.
• Consider Aix-les-Bains as a base: If your agenda includes the lake, thermal baths or the casino, staying in Aix-les-Bains and taking a short train to Chambéry can actually save money and add a different dimension to the trip.
