Hotels in Bandol: Where to Stay in 2025

Bandol sits on a sheltered bay roughly 45 kilometres east of Marseille, tucked between the limestone ridges of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume and the Mediterranean. The town is best known for two things: its long sandy beach curving around a lively port, and the Bandol AOC wine appellation, one of the most respected in Provence for its Mourvèdre-based reds and its rosés. The combination of a genuine working harbour, palm-lined promenades, and vine-covered hillsides gives it a personality that is more rooted than many coastal resorts along this stretch of coast.

Staying in the wider Bandol area means you are well positioned for day trips to Cassis, Marseille's calanques, the Paul Ricard racing circuit at Le Castellet, and the islands of Embiez and Bendor. The landscape shifts noticeably within just a few kilometres: from the flat, sandy shores of Six-Fours-les-Plages and the beaches of Les Sablettes near La Seyne-sur-Mer, to the medieval perched villages of La Cadière-d'Azur and Le Castellet sitting high above the vineyards. Whichever base you choose, the pace is Mediterranean, the light is exceptional from May through September, and the food on offer, including fresh seafood and local wine, is the main event.

• Bandol centre: The obvious choice for first-time visitors and beach lovers. The port, the market, the casino, and the main beach are all walkable from here. Most restaurants and bars are concentrated around the waterfront. The 5-star Thalazur Ile Rousse sits directly on the bay and represents the top end of the local offer.
• Six-Fours-les-Plages: A larger, more residential coastal commune just west of Bandol. It has several beaches, a relaxed atmosphere, and good-value accommodation options including Hotel Helios and Spa and the Campanile Toulon. Practical for families or travellers with a car who want space without the crowds of peak-season Bandol.
• Les Sablettes (La Seyne-sur-Mer): A sandbar neighbourhood facing the bay of Toulon. The Grand Hotel Des Sablettes Plage, part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, anchors the area. The beach here is calm and the setting is genuinely picturesque, though Bandol itself requires a short drive.
• Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer: Positioned between Bandol and Cassis, this commune includes the beaches of Les Lecques and La Madrague. Le Frégate Provence hotel sits above the bay with vineyard views and is a strong choice for travellers who want calm, scenery, and easy access to both destinations.
• La Cadière-d'Azur: A hilltop village sitting directly above the Bandol wine appellation vineyards. Maison Bérard, a hotel-restaurant-spa in a converted priory, makes this a worthwhile base for food and wine-focused stays. Quieter and more intimate than the coast, with Bandol roughly 10 minutes by car.
• Le Castellet and Signes (inland): Le Castellet is a perfectly preserved medieval village and home to the Circuit Paul Ricard. Both Grand Prix Hôtel and Adonis le Castellet (in nearby Signes) serve visitors attending motorsport events or looking for affordable inland accommodation with easy motorway access. The drive to the coast takes around 20 minutes.

• Bring or rent a car: Bandol itself is walkable, but the surrounding villages, vineyards, and beaches are spread across several communes. Public transport connects the main towns by bus and the TER regional train stops at Bandol station (on the Marseille-Toulon line), but flexibility beyond the centre really requires a vehicle.
• Book early for July and August: The Bandol area fills up quickly in high summer, particularly for properties directly on the water. Prices rise sharply from late June. Shoulder season, specifically May, June, and September, offers much better availability, cooler crowds, and often significantly lower rates.
• Account for the mistral: The strong north-westerly wind that defines Provençal weather can arrive without much warning, especially in spring. It clears the air and keeps the coast from feeling humid, but it can make beach days uncomfortable for a day or two at a time. Check wind forecasts alongside weather.
• Use Bandol as a wine base: The appellation is small and the domaines are accessible. Several producers around La Cadière-d'Azur and Le Castellet welcome visitors for tastings, often without appointment outside peak season. Staying inland puts you closer to the source.
• Airport connections: Toulon-Hyères Airport (TLN) is the nearest airport, roughly 30 kilometres east of Bandol. Marseille-Provence Airport (MRS) is around 55 kilometres to the west and has a wider range of connections. A taxi or rental car is the most practical option from either; there is no direct shuttle to Bandol from either airport.
