The most practical route from Lisbon is to drive or take a bus to Setúbal, then board the Tróia Ferry across the Sado estuary. The crossing takes around 30 to 35 minutes. From the Tróia terminal, Carvalhal is a short drive south along the peninsula road. Alternatively, you can drive the full road route via the A2 motorway and Alcácer do Sal, which avoids the ferry but adds roughly an hour to the journey.

The area has no meaningful town centre with walkable shops and restaurants, and distances between beaches, villages and accommodation can be several kilometres.
