• Historic Centre (Vieux Mont-de-Marsan): The best base for visitors without a car. Restaurants, the covered market, the sculpture museum, and the riverbanks are all walkable. • Quartier des Arènes: The neighbourhood around the arenas picks up a festive energy during the Flamenco and bullfighting season in July. Good for travellers who come specifically for the festivals and want to stay near the action.

• Bring or rent a car: Mont-de-Marsan is not well served by direct high-speed rail. The town has a train station connected to Bordeaux and Dax, but journey times are long and frequencies are limited. A car makes the city and the surrounding Landes pine forest genuinely accessible.
• Book early for July: The Flamenco en Feria festival and the corridas held in late July are the city's biggest annual events. Hotels fill up weeks in advance during this period, and prices may be higher than those listed here.
• Shoulder seasons offer the best balance: May to June and September to October bring mild temperatures, fewer crowds, and full access to outdoor terraces and markets. Summer is warm and festive; winters are mild but quiet.
• Parking is generally straightforward: Most hotels outside the strict centre offer free parking. Even in the centre, municipal parking is available near the arenas and along the riverside, which reduces the usual friction of city driving.
• Mix your stay with the Landes forest: Mont-de-Marsan is a natural base for exploring the Landes pine forest, the largest artificial forest in Western Europe. Day trips to Sabres, the Marquèze ecomuseum, or the Atlantic coast (roughly 80 km west) are very manageable.
