The city is small enough to explore almost entirely on foot once you have dropped your bags, which makes hotel location genuinely matter here. Choosing a central address saves real time and adds to the overall experience.

• Cathedral Quarter (Quartier de la Cathédrale): The heart of the old city, ideal for pilgrims, history lovers, and anyone who wants to step outside and immediately be inside medieval Le Puy. Streets are steep and cobbled, so less suitable if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues.
• City Centre (Centre-Ville around Place du Breuil): The flat commercial hub a short walk below the cathedral, close to restaurants, the tourist office, and public transport stops. The most practical base for most visitors, with a good mix of hotels at different price points.

• Le Puy has no passenger train service to Paris: The closest mainline rail hub is Clermont-Ferrand (about 2 hours by bus or car). Budget travel time accordingly and check Flixbus or regional coach connections if you are not driving.
