Hikers use Digne as a base for the geological reserve (one of Europe's largest), while cyclists join the Route Napoléon that passes through town. Accommodation is affordable by French standards, and the variety, from chain hotels near the main boulevard to golf resorts on the edge of town, covers most travel styles.

• Old Town (Vieille Ville): Best for first-time visitors and those who want to walk everywhere. Markets, restaurants, and the cathedral are all within a few minutes on foot. Streets are quiet at night and lively on Saturday mornings.
• Thermal District (Quartier Thermal): The area around the thermal baths on the northern edge of town suits wellness travellers and anyone who wants to combine a spa cure with a Provençal holiday. Peaceful, slightly residential, easy walk to the centre.
• Boulevard Gassendi (Town Centre Axis): The main commercial artery, lined with hotels and shops. Practical for anyone arriving by train or bus, as the station is at one end of this axis. Good transport connections to surrounding villages.
• Bléone Riverside: A quieter corridor along the river, popular with joggers and families. Staying near the riverbanks gives a more local feel and short access to hiking trails that head into the geological reserve.
• Golf Resort Area (Western Outskirts): Suited to golfers and travellers who prefer a larger property with outdoor facilities. Requires a car for daily errands but offers space, calm, and a different perspective on the surrounding limestone landscape.
• Surrounding Villages (Allos, Pra Loup direction): For winter ski trips or summer mountain hiking, self-catering apartments near Allos or Pra Loup make more sense than staying in Digne itself. Count roughly 45 to 60 minutes by car from Digne into the upper Verdon valley.

• Rent a car if you can: Digne has a train station (Train des Pignes to Nice, SNCF connections toward Marseille via Sisteron), but the surrounding gorges, lavender plateaus, and ski resorts are only practical with your own wheels. Car rental is available in town.
