Choosing where to stay therefore comes down to whether you want to be immersed in the historic core, or prefer a modern, practical base a few kilometres out.

• Cathedral District (Centre Historique): The obvious choice for first-time visitors. Cobblestone streets, immediate access to the cathedral and the old town, and the best concentration of restaurants. • Arrive by train from Paris Montparnasse: Direct TER trains run roughly every hour and take about 75 minutes. The station sits at the foot of the cathedral hill, so you can walk to most central hotels without needing a taxi.
• Car parking is manageable: Chartres has several free or low-cost car parks around the periphery of the old town. If you are staying at a central hotel, check whether on-site or nearby paid parking is available, as street parking in the medieval core is limited.
